Slumdog Idol

Saturday, March 7, 2009

I had the great privilege of watching the Academy Award winning picture before Slumdog Millionaire won it this year. It is very rare that I do get to watch a great movie before it gets the accolade. It is a wonderful Cinderella-like story from rags to riches. I am glad that the movie won the best picture. There may be a good chance that we will witness a Cinderella story in American Idol.

Last year I got to witness the David and David showdown of American Idol season 7. I loved how David Cook expressed his creative ability in arranging songs in that suits his rock persona and genre that he loves. This year I really don't want to witness every episode and let America choose. I'll just visit DialIdol.com to see how busy the phone lines are to determine who gets eliminated weekly. They were 97% accurate so it seems that its a reliable source.

I stumbled upon the wild card round on TV. Four judges gave eight contestants a second chance to get in the finals. Three of the eight singers had the chance be part of the finals. Before I get to go on the the highlights, I'd just like to say this to Tatiana Del Toro: "Any amount of drama you pull off won't get you in the finals." You didn't get to fool the American public and you didn't get to fool the judges. I think that if she was a contestant in a singing contest to the Philippines, she would make it. She wouldn't have needed a second chance with her pleading and begging to the judges. See how annoyed I am with her. Now lets go back to the real topic.

Anoop Desai getting the last slot in the finals is a great twist in the American Idol season. A R&B singer with an Indian background is an interesting thought, and Randy Jackson calls him 'Noop Dogg. What makes it even more interesting is that the judges bended the rules to allow Anoop in the finals. This is a perfect start of a story book ending.
