My Munchkin: Canon Powershot A550

I was thinking of borrowing someone else's digital camera for my upcoming Zamboanga City holiday, but I decided to buy my own camera. Ladies and gentlemen, I want to introduce to the world the newest member of my tech family, my munchkin (since I already have my baby), the Canon Powershot A550.

After buying my munchkin, I have decided to enforce birth control before my tech family blows out of proportion.

I have been trying this for the past day and I can say that for PHP 8,500 (approximately USD$ 185). In malls this camera will cost PHP 13,500 (approximately USD$ 293). So when I found out that there is a brand new Canon Powershot that is sold below PHP 10,000, I took the opportunity to buy one.

It is a great camera to use to learn the introductions to photography. It has a great manual adjustment mode to adjust ISO, Shutter Speed and Exposure so in the future when I have a digital SLR. Digital SLRs, or Single-lens reflex, cameras are the cameras that are being used by professional photographers and papparazzi. Once I have mastered the basic photography concepts, it's my challenge to maximize the features of the camera.

There is also a video option where you can save approximately 8 minutes of video.

I'm satisfied with its features and I'm happy to have bought it for my birthday.

Your Munchkin

I'm the brother of Cedric.

I finally found your site. It looks good!

May I ask where you bought the PS A550? We bought one too, but at a much higher price at a leading appliance store. We were going to buy a camera phone but settled for a basic digital camera. I think it's pretty good for its price.

It may lack some manual features, like shutter speed control, manual focus, aperture control etc. but you can pretty much control the important features to capture the moment. It's good enough for beginners without being overly complicated.

The camera's pitfall is in the video recording where bright lights can show up as vertical streaks across the screen. It shows up when you have a birthday candle blowing scene.

God bless!

My Munchkin

Hi Ted!

Thanks for visiting.

My workmate bought the camera at Hidalgo Street in Quiapo. It is a street filled with photography gear and the price is much lower as compared to what you see in malls. I think the cameras are cheaper because the Camera I got was from Japan, thus I got the manual in Japanese. I easily got to download a PDF version of the manual.

I appreciate your comments on my munchkin. It's a very simple camera, but it has some manual controls. It's a perfect beginner's camera which will train me before I get to have a digital SLR.

With regards to the video, it's not really a pitfall because you're asking way too much for a simple camera. I'm just grateful that it has that functionality.
