What is Open Source?

Open Source is a set of principles that encourages sharing of intellectual property, in our case we will focus on software. It is different from public domain, because works under public domain can be incorporated in a derivative work and that work becomes copyright.

I am a big fan of the open source concept. The concept is to share knowledge to the community while keeping it open for others to improve upon the knowledge. Open source also involves the community for its survival.

In this section, I will write articles on my favorite open source projects and issues that arise in using open source.

One of the first open source programs I'll feature has heritage from one of the programs that started the open source revolution.

Once upon a digital time, there was a web browser named Netscape Navigator. It was launched in the early 1990s. I do remember using it once or twice in an internet cafe. It set the standard for web browsing until Microsoft bundled Internet Explorer in Windows. Since Internet Explorer was built-in in Windows, people didn't need to buy Netscape Navigator anymore.
