The head is for thinking, not storing - notes hold what would otherwise get lost.
Key Concept
- Offload ideas so my head can think, not hoard.
- Remember CODE: Capture, organize, distill, express.
- The Second Brain Workflow is how CODE and PARA run as one daily-to-weekly loop.
- The system fails when any step is just for show.
- I review quarterly whether each step still earns its place.
- My head is for thinking, not storing - notes hold what I would otherwise lose.
- Notes hold what I would otherwise lose - capture is how ideas survive the week.
Level 1 - Recognize
Building a second brain means storing useful ideas outside your head so your mind can focus on thinking.
Level 2 - Explain
The system moves ideas through capture, organization, distillation, and expression instead of treating storage as the finish line.
Level 3 - Use
Capture one useful idea in a trusted inbox, process it later, and use it in a real piece of work.
Level 4 - Connect
CODE and PARA can reduce memory load, but the system fails when upkeep costs more than reuse or when capture never becomes output.
Level 5 - Create
Build a complete workflow from capture to expression, then remove or revise any step that does not earn its place.
Examples
- A play idea hits during warm-ups and I voice-memo it before the gym noise eats it - my head is for having ideas, the inbox is for storing them until review.
- A sermon line lands mid-shift and I scribble it on a receipt - one trusted inbox, no sorting yet, process it Sunday when the spark is safe.
Note Relationships

| alternative | GTD vs PARA | Second brain stack vs task-first inbox when Forte's buckets win |
| contradicts | The Collector's Fallacy | when CODE steps become collection theater with no express |
| extends | Capture | CODE starts with capture - nothing to organize until it lands |
| extends | CODE Method | Capture → Organize → Distill → Express pipeline Forte names |
| extends | PKM | A second brain offloads ideas so your head can think instead of hoard |
