Level 1 - Recognize
Coaching ethics is the duty to protect people under your influence from unsafe or pointless harm.
Level 2 - Explain
Consent and waivers do not remove that duty because authority, expertise, and risk are not shared equally.
Level 3 - Use
Refuse the dangerous drill or cleanse even when the participant agreed to it.
Level 4 - Connect
Protection must respect autonomy without hiding behind consent; weigh benefit, risk, power, and safer alternatives through Duty of Care.
Level 5 - Create
Create a safety review for drills that states the benefit, risk, stop rule, and safer option before anyone participates.
Examples
- The coach who cited the signed waiver after a near-drown was not coaching - glad the parent complaint named what Duty of Care owed.
- The gym sold a dangerous cleanse because customers clicked agree - coaching ethics means you still owe reasonable protection to people under your influence.
