Leadership
Table of Contents
Leadership is owning direction, pace, and care when people look to you - title optional.
Key Concept
- Care means the people counting on you still feel seen when the pressure spikes.
- When people look to you, they need someone to set direction - not just a name on the org chart.
- Pace matters as much as direction - calm urgency beats either panic or drift.
Level 1 - Recognize
Leadership is keeping the people who depend on you feeling noticed when pressure spikes, not only keeping deliverables on track.
Level 2 - Explain
Like a captain who checks the crew when the storm rises, direction matters less than trust when load increases.
Level 3 - Use
Under deadline pressure, name one person on your team and confirm they still feel seen before you chase the next milestone.
Level 4 - Connect
When people feel invisible under load, trust erodes and output follows - care under pressure is the limit that keeps deliverables from hollowing out the team.
Level 5 - Create
Extend care under pressure through Servant Leadership and Duty of Care - protection they should feel when roles flip.
Examples
- Our line cook never got named manager; leadership was calm voice, who goes where, and nobody blaming while the extinguishers were still out - glad the hood alarm night showed direction and care when people look to you.
- The blackout hit our block and one neighbor set pace - who checks on elders, who handles the generator - direction and care when people look to you.
