Loss of Reward
Table of Contents
Loss of reward = a believer can enter eternity saved but with worthless works burned up - reward shrunk or lost, eternal life still secure on Christ (1 Corinthians 3:12-15).
Two categories, one sentence apart: Free Grace and Justification settle eternal life at faith. Eternal Rewards and the Judgment Seat settle what gets repaid for faithful living. Losing reward is not losing salvation. Paul says the builder “will be saved, yet so as through fire” - still in, with loss. Sanctification keeps growing after a wasted season; Forgiveness restores fellowship when sin breaks closeness - neither re-opens Justification. Faith and Works and The Narrow Way split false “Lord, Lord” (never believed) from a believer who stumbled and repents. PKM mirror: Failure as Feedback - a burned work is feedback on what to build differently, not proof you were never in the garden.
Examples
- Wasted years of selfish living and terror I'm not saved - reward may burn at the judgment seat; my standing was settled when I trusted Christ.
- Wood-hay-stubble week and dread like I'm facing hell - saved through fire means loss of reward, not loss of eternal life.
- I collapsed “I might get no reward” with “I'm not saved” - eternal life is by faith; rewards are a separate ledger.
- Hidden sin exposed and shame screamed heaven access revoked - confess, restore fellowship, keep walking; justification on Christ doesn't get re-opened by a bad season.
