Open Not Maintained

An open license does not mean maintained code - abandonware still fails the inspectable test.
Key Concept
- View source on abandonware is permission without a repair bench.
- Level 1: License says you may read and fork - it does not say anyone still ships security patches or answers issues.
- Level 2: Open but unmaintained is like a public library with no librarian - you may browse the stacks, nobody restocks the shelves.
- Level 3: Because last commit was years ago, I budget a swap or fork plan before the plugin owns a critical path.
- Level 4: Gallery slider with no commits since 2019 - open license never helped at ten at night; maintained fork or replacement was the real fix.
- Level 5: Inspectable Stack adds move and help legs; Community Depth asks whether anyone still answers threads.
- Say No to Nulled is a different failure mode - stolen premium, not honest abandonware.

- Client site ran a open-source gallery plugin frozen since 2019 - I replaced it before PHP 8 turned the fatal into a Friday outage.
- Hugo theme with one maintainer and forty open issues - I forked in-repo because waiting on upstream was slower than owning the nil check.
