Open Not Maintained

An open license does not mean maintained code - abandonware still fails the inspectable test.

- View source on abandonware is permission without a repair bench.

Level 1 - Recognize
Open not maintained means the license grants read and fork rights - nobody still ships patches or answers issues.
Level 2 - Explain
Like a public library with no librarian - you may browse the stacks; nobody restocks the shelves.
Level 3 - Use
Before a frozen plugin owns a critical path, budget a swap or fork plan when the last commit was years ago.
Level 4 - Connect
An open license preserves the right to fork. Thin Community Depth shifts patching and security onto you. Inspection alone does not make the stack safe.
Level 5 - Create
Create a fork-or-swap plan with Inspectable Stack and Community Depth. Name who answers when the next patch is yours.

- Glad I replaced the frozen gallery plugin before PHP 8 turned the fatal into a Friday outage - client site ran open-source code unmaintained since 2019.
- Hugo theme with one maintainer and forty open issues - I forked in-repo because waiting on upstream was slower than owning the nil check.
